Hoosier Chess Academy was formed in June 2024 after a hugely successful summer camp. A need for consistent, high-quality, community-minded chess programming was realized.
I have been professionally coaching and teaching chess for over eight years. This includes teaching for ChessKid.com at the USCF National K-12 Championships thrice, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington for three years, and various MCCSC schools for six. Chess is by far my favorite subject to teach. For kids, chess should be more than just sitting down at a board or a screen for hours and hours; that’s why I incorporate movement, discussion, and hands-on activities into most everything my students engage with. Students I have taught have grown their USCF ratings up to 1200+, placed in the top three at regional and state championships, and developed crucial life skills they will need for college and career.
